Committees meet monthly (and/or as needed) Sept-May.

Help to source and work with vendors to select branded apparel (singlets, outerwear, accessories, etc.)  to promote the club and its logo. 

Helpful Skills: Creativity and organizational skills. A background in fashion, merchandising, and/or design is a plus.

Evaluate race data, membership history and member input to objectively select recipients who best meet or exceed award qualifications/criteria for established categories.  These awards are announced annually at NJM’s annual banquet. 

Helpful skills:  Possess excellent analytical skills and the ability to be fair and objective. Please note: This committee meets at agreed times during the months of October through January.

Review and maintain the club’s By-laws, code of ethics, conflict of interest and required USATF/RRCA documents along with any other legal matters. Recommend and implement updates.

Helpful skills:  Experienced in contract management. Possess excellent analytical and interpretive skills. 

This committee determines how the proceeds from the Ridgewood Run will be allocated to charitable organizations whose mission statements are in alignment with the North Jersey Masters’ mission.  Responsibilities include researching and proposing charitable organization recipients and determining the criteria for, evaluating, and selecting any scholarship recipients.  

Helpful skills: Possess excellent evaluative, research and communications skills  and the ability to objectively review applications to ensure that organizations and scholarship recipients are selected in a fair and consistent manner. Ideally this committee will include a mix of members with different backgrounds who can bring the benefits of their unique life and work experiences, diverse outlooks, and local knowledge to discussions.

Help  to recruit and select coaches whose coaching styles best suits the needs and interests of the club for organized workouts. Other responsibilities include establishing qualification standards, coaching expectations, creating workout timelines for each season, and working with the club President on contract obligations as the President directs.

Helpful skills: Possess general business acumen along with some general knowledge of coaching . An understanding of the current coaching needs and workout interests of current, active club members of all levels would be beneficial.

Social Media:

Maintain the club’s social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram), other official club communications and online presence to increase brand awareness, share upcoming events, and post relevant content that aligns with club goals /mission and regularly engages followers to increase page and site activity. Active club participation encouraged. 

Photography:

Take photos of members at events, socials, group runs etc. and post to social media. Active club participation encouraged.

Publicity

Develop a strategic direction to grow the brand. Market the club by finding and implementing innovative and cost-effective ways to advertise, promote and represent NJM within the local community to attract new audiences. Arrange for photos of presentations and special events and compose press releases. 

 Newsletter:  

Create new content and conduct interviews relevant to club interests along with soliciting meaningful  contributions from members . Determine the timetable and format for publication and distribution and ensure that deadlines are met.

Website Updating

Coordinate with all club committees to gather and post timely and relevant content and calendar details on the club’s webpage. Liaise with the web technology administrator to help maintain website.

Helpful skills: Experienced in social media, communications, marketing, public relations , web management and/or journalism. We suggest members of this committee further possess a combination of the following abilities: initiative, resourcefulness, and a high sense of urgency; strong interpersonal skills; presentation skills; the ability to write creatively, clearly, and compellingly. Multi- media skills including photography and videography are a plus. Experience working with non-profit agencies is desirable. This committee works both independently and collaboratively with other committees.  

Oversee the annual club election process and communications including timelines, recruiting, voting procedures, and assuring a fair and equitable process. Screen and review nominations and interested candidate.  Recommend a slate of candidates for Board for discussion and approval .

Manage all details of election day.

Helpful skills:  Related experience. Organizational, project management and both written/verbal communications. Proven ability to be fair and objective.

Plan & manage weekly, monthly, and special events inclusive of all members and running abilities. Responsibilities include organizing weekend runs, destination/interclub runs, social get-togethers, community events, monthly club meetings (e.g., confirming dates/ locations and assisting with planning for guest speakers and refreshments) and coordinating the annual summer picnic.  This committee also coordinates and manages transportation arrangements for designated races in the metro area.  

Helpful skills:  Organizational, event planning , project management and communications skills along with being a creative/innovative thinker. 

Ensure NJM operates within its financial resources to provide programs and services to the club.  Financial analysis and oversight of the organization’s annual and long-term budget goals, including the Ridgewood Run.  Additional responsibilities include creating and monitoring internal controls and accountability policies and procedures. Review contract language. 

Helpful skills: A background in finance and/or accounting, along with integrity, budgeting experience and excellent analytical and reporting skills. Experience with Quick Books is required.

Represent the club by welcoming our members at weekly group runs.  Organize and lead pace groups to assure all runners are welcomed  to the group, are knowledgeable of the route and that they practice safe running.

Drive membership by determining strategies for member recruitment, engagement, and retention. Ensure that membership records are up to date, welcomes new club members at workouts and social runs, and offer support and promote mentorship to keep new club members engaged.  Utilize/evaluate data and reports from RunSignUp to communicate trends to the board.  Represent NJM at races and community events to distribute club materials and to promote the club.

Helpful Skills:  Possess excellent analytical, reporting, and interpersonal skills and have a team player mentality.  

Respond to phone inquiries and delegate calls to the proper committee heads.

Helpful Skills:  Possess organizational, customer service and interpersonal skills.  

Help to plan The Ridgewood Run®. Roles include course management, general and field operations, logistics and volunteer recruitment . Participate in Memorial Day weekend race related events and on race day.

Helpful skills: Strong project management & organization skills, excellent interpersonal, verbal and writing communication ability and proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel and other software applications.

Recruit new sponsors for the Ridgewood Run, assists with contract management and fulfillment of contract terms, and cultivates and maintains on going year-round relationships with sponsors. Members of this committee will initiate and attend sponsorship meetings with prospective, current, and ongoing sponsorship accounts.  Assist on race day with helping sponsors locate and set up their tent and support any sponsor needs.  

Helpful Skills: Excellent interpersonal, communications and follow up skills . A  sales/ marketing background and/or experience with fund raising for non-profits a definite plus.   

Promote engagement in club USATF/NJ and New York Road Runners competitions. Do outreach to encourage member participation, maintain up to date email distribution lists, communicate race details  and work with the communications committees to publicize races and foster interest in the NJM club competition teams. Coordinate team members at on race day and manage any related paperwork and registration issues.

Contribute to the  technical development and functional support of  NJM’s website. Determine ways to maximize usage and to streamline website performance  and mobile navigation.  Liaison with the communications department to ensure that the content is current and relevant, identify gaps and redundancies, create, and implement  schedules for committees to update content . 

Helpful Skills: A technical background with relevant experience in IT, website management and design, publishing, and design software. Other skills include oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, numerical and analytical ability, teamwork, business acumen, creativity, and initiative.
